The controversial forerunner in the creation of Marxist literary criticism, edited by Max Eastman after its brief publication lapse in 1912, assisted by Floyd Dell. It features articles by almost every important radical or liberal literary figure, including John Read. Suppressed in December 1917 by the government for its antiwar and anti-government content, later issues were unable to be sent through the mail, which eventually brought about its demise.
