The most important literary magazine published in New England prior to the “Atlantic Monthly” (645), founded by Joseph T. Buckingham. These volumes are most notable for the first appearances of Oliver Wendell Holmes’ “Autocrat of the Breakfast Table” and poems by Longfellow. The most desirable issues are between November 1834 and December 1835 (v. 7 – 9) which contains some of the best known writings of Nathaniel Hawthorne. Merged into “American Monthly Magazine” (233). |
