Boston Magazine, Containing, a Collection of Instructive and Entertaining Essays, in the Various Branches of Useful and Polite Literature. A miscellany with the earlier issues extensively illustrated with engravings, including the earliest ones of Washington and Franklin in a magazine, ballooning (montgolfier) and natural history. Textual highlights include early reports of Washington’s farewell to his troops (December 1783), The Treaty of Paris (March 1784) and a Phillis Wheatley poem (April 1784). The issue for November 1783 has an apology for the poor quality of the prior issue number, making October and November both first number. Complete run lacking only one issue in 1786, some scattered pages in facsimile. |
