A short-lived, sparsely illustrated, scarce and important weekly, featuring mild satire and refined humor. It was edited by S. W. Wilder and Benjamin Shillaber, and was most notable for its May 1, 1852 issue (v. 2 no 5) which contains the first published appearance of Samuel Langhorne Clemens (Mark Twain). It was a short, humorous article, entitled “The Dandy Frightens the Squatter,” signed S. L.C. Not in most major Twain collections.
