A humor magazine which preceded and sold its name to the pictorial. Inspired by and modeled after Harvard Lampoon (845) employing raucous but genteel humor, photoengraved illustration and nonpartisan politics, it became the most influential humor magazine of the time and a model for New Yorker (1140) . A miniature facsimile of this issue, 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 was published at a later date. Between 1900 and 1925 its has cover illustration by Maxfield Parrish and Norman Rockwell. |
