A modestly successful, conservative, yet admirable magazine, begun as a literary miscellany with a notable roll of authors from throughout America. It also included articles on travel, art and criticism as well as some on science and politics. It later attempted to survive by addressing more scoial and political questions, and by dropping illustration. After 1887, it included an entire original short novel in each issue, with some very notable contributions. Merged into “Scribner’s Magazine” (962). |
