The flagship for Frank Munsey’s fleet of magazines. For the first two and a half years, a scarce, expensive, unprofitable, weekly humor magazine, modeled after Life (921). It evolved into a popular general illustrated monthly, despite mediocre content, principally due to a reduction in price to ten cents, ingenious marketing and self-distribution, copious advertising, good illustration and subtle sensationalism. United with Argony All-Story Weekly to form All-Story combined with Munsey’s, later Munsey’s Magazine. |
