Clearly the most important and influential geographic magazine ever published, it has entertained and educated its readers for generations. This issue had a circulation of about 700, mostly distributed among the 208 original Society members. Early issues were issued irregularly and are now rare. After 1910 it became plentiful and, with a few minor exceptions, now inexpensive and readily available. Early issues were reprinted and most are so identified. Volumes 2 and 4 are the rarest. See Buxbaum, Edwin C. “Collecting National Geographic Magazines”, 1935. Custom clam shell box.
