One of the first American periodicals devoted exclusively to politics, edited by William Cobbett under the pseudonym Peter Porcupine. It was published due to the prior success of a pamphlet published by Thomas Bradford, entitled “A Prospect from the Congress Gallery,” and went through at least three editions.
