A widely circulated, though, according to Mott “not very funny” humor magazine, modeled after the British “Punch.” Its financial ‘angels’ included Jay Gould and Jim Fisk, heads of the Erie Railway, and William B. Tweed and Peter B. Sweeney, heads of Tammany, all of whom were frequently the targets of satire in the other contemporary humor magazines.
