The issue has a cover feature of “Booker T. Washington and the Negro” by Thomas Dixon, Jr., a racist, nativistic diatribe against the appeasement policies of Booker T. Washington. It reflects the unfortunate conservative attitude of the Bok/Curtis publication. Dixon would go on to author a book used as the basis for D.W. Griffith’s movie “Birth of a Nation” that was laudatory of the Ku Klux Klan. |
