A successful comic periodical edited by Alexander Sweet. It began in newspaper format and soon became the leading publication of the region, featuring satire, primarily on western topics. It soon took on illustration and became an important organ of political satire and reform. In 1883 it moved to New York and London and acquired a national and international reputation. In 1886 it reduced its size, and adopted a magazine format. |
