The most important pre-fire Chicago periodical and the most important high-class literary magazine ever published there. It sought the ‘Development of Western Intellect and Enterprise’. Of the numerous local periodicals, it best provided a credible forum for local writers as well as biographical sketches, poetry, essays, travelogues, a few natural science articles and book reviews. Listed in ULS and after January 1871 as “Lakeside Monthly”. |
