Ostensibly, the first American periodical devoted to wine but considerably more important. Aside from this being a trade journal, according to Mott (v.2 p.183) Frederick S. Cozzens had such a gift of humor that this “should be listed by the comics”. This “vinuous vivacios monthly” issued from Cozzens’ cellar at 74 Warren Street that was the hangout of the local literati including Irving, Halleck, Gay;prd Clark and Gulian Verplanck. where “wit was expended that was as rich and mellow as his own “best brands”. This is one of two known complete runs and is bound in an elegant contemporary half-morocco binding. Rare and wonderful! |
